On Friday, August 7th, we took our Jeep up to Mammoth Lakes and rode the Lookout Mountain Loop in the Inyo National Forest.

It took about an hour to get there and the loop itself was about a 3-hour drive — it was slowwwwww driving most of the way because the trail was rough or very steep. So I drove very slowly at times because I was concerned about the sheer drop offs alongside many parts of the loop.

The loop was rated “beginner” and for the most part it was — except for one steep drop (see movie below).

Most of the trip was like driving through the center of a forest and sweeping vistas were difficult to find because of the tall pines. However, snapped a few pics of some great views . . .

Winter

Snow in Late April (RV nightmare)

While looking through some old photos, I found some Winter pictures from our former Green Bay home.

I look at them when I think the weather is too hot in the Southwest.

God, how I miss getting up at 4 am to snow blow our driveway so that we could get our cars out on the road and slide to work on the black ice.

South Lake

To test out our Jeep (we just had it tuned), we took an afternoon trip up to Lake Sabrina . . . and along the way discovered South Lake.

At South Lake we talked to some hikers just coming back from Long Lake (see map) which is on the Bishop Pass Trail. They couple said it was a great trip so Jan & I bookmarked this spot for the future.

The area has several trails that look worth investigating:
