Following with interest, I contemplated buying this system last April but decided to hold off until at least the fall.
According to what I read and the spot beam charts, you should be able to venture into southern Canada and probably almost all of Alberta and receive a signal – as far as I know there is no way to use a Canadian address, so provided you have access to a U.S. location close to the border (which I have, (northern Idaho) I should be able to be operational.
It’s important to us as we venture north into Alberta quite frequently, do you have any information on this? Of course if you don’t venture north it may be of little interest to you, but it’s an interesting point somewhat akin to “how far can we get Dish or Directv across the border” type of questions in the past.
Anyway, you are very informative and I enjoy your articles.

Even though HughesNET Gen 5 dishes (.90M & .98M) are big, I don’t think you’ll get very far into Canada with a usable signal.

Actually the spot beam you showed covers the area we generally go to though just barely.

Appreciate your interesting article, contemplated buying this system last spring but received conflicting information as to how far into Canada (we visit quite frequently) it can be used, seems from the spot beam charts it should be useable near the border and probably most of Alberta.
If I understand correctly, a Canadian location would not be accepted, so an address close to the border (we are in northern Idaho) would be needed.
May be of no interest to you if you rarely venture north, but to those who do, it would be interesting to know if it is viable; a variation of the “how far can I get my Dish/Directv signal”
Anyway will continue to follow your comments.
