Silver Creek RV Resort — Mears, MI

We didn’t know what to expect from this campground. We knew the coastal area in Michigan was very nice, but didn’t know much about our new campground.

However, when we arrived, we noticed a lot of vehicles with tall flags in the campground . . .

Finally, Jan recorded a movie as we drove up a sand dune. The video is awful, but the audio . . . well, give a listen . . .

Indigo Bluffs RV Resort — Empire, MI

Well, tonight is our last night at Indigo Bluffs, and we’re going to miss this place — great location and lots of nice neighbors.
C’est la vie.
Our neighbors were from all over (Texas, Virginia, Florida, Massachusetts, . . .) and shared interesting stories of their lives and travels. One women solo RV’d for a number of years, work camped, and traveled to Alaska.
A couple of the folks bought sites at Indigo Bluffs. Jan and I were seriously considering it too, but decided not to as we’ve just started our adventure. However, there are bargains to be had here.
We did a Sunday brunch and Monday lunch with these folks. Loved it.

This area of Michigan reminds us of Door County in Wisconsin — great scenery, kinda “touristy” with lots to see and do.

Indigo Bluffs RV Resort — Empire, MI

Crossing the Mackinac Bridge into Lower Michigan

We crossed the Mackinac Bridge Sunday morning and arrived at Indigo Bluffs RV Resort in the afternoon.

Most of the trip was along Highway 31 and the route reminded us of Wisconsin’s Upper Peninsula.

Straits State Park — Saint Ignace, MI

Straits State Park Campground

We’ll only be at Straits State Park for 3 nights so we tried to do a lot of things in a short time. Most of those “things” were taking walks in the park.

For a park that’s right off a major freeway (I-75), it’s very private. The Upper Campground, where we’re staying, has spacious campsites, and though were only a few hundred feet from the freeway, you would never know it from our site because much of the surrounding foliage are thick cedar groves.

NEXT STOP: Empire, MI

Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore — Munising, MI

On Tuesday we took a 2-1/2 hour boat tour of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. If you have your maps handy, that’s a ride along the shore from Munising almost up to Grand Marais, MI.

When we arrived at the Munising dock where the ride starts, the passenger line was really really long, and we were pretty near the end of it. My thought: no window seats.

But as people climbed onto the boat, I noticed that most of them were going up to the seats on the open boat roof. Eureka!

There was NO way we wanted to ride in the hot sun for 2.5 hours, so when it came our turn to board, we went for the below deck seats. Bingo — we landed window seats! However, the seats were on the left (port) side of the boat, and all the Painted Rocks would be passing by on the right (starboard) side. C’est la vie. Nevertheless, the boat captain assured us that on the way back the left side folks would see the same sights. (He neglected to mention that we’d be returning at Warp 9 speed.)

Regardless, the weather was perfect and the tour was grand. Here are some photos . . .
